About the Event

The Northeast Louisiana Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, a non- profit organization located in Monroe, is proud to announce they will be hosting a COVID-19 Vaccination Drive for people 18 years old or older with Sickle Cell Disease.  The drive is being held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 8:00AM to 3:00 PM at the Ouachita Parish Health Unit located at 1650 Desired St. Monroe, LA 71201.  

This event is being held in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Health is being sponsored by Global Blood Therapeutics.  While it is important for everyone to get protected against the virus this event will be the first vaccination event in region 8 that specifically targets people with Sickle Cell disease. This event will be in addition to a mix of vaccination options provided by — hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics. To get the vaccine you must have sickle cell disease and be eligible under state vaccination guidelines. The event will offer the Moderna vaccine and participants will have to make a follow-up appointment to get the second dose. It can take 25 to 45 minutes to get vaccinated so it’s recommended that participants complete their registration in advance online.

For over 40 years the NELASCAF along with the Louisiana State Commission on Sickle Cell has been dedicated to providing a continuous commitment to Sickle Cell education, trait counseling, patient assistance and social services to the 12 surrounding parishes.
